people used to steal the tail lights off my mustang (an '87 GT).  stock
GT tail lights were an ugly cheese grater design.  a popular mod was to
replace them with LX tail lights, which were much better looking.  i
had LX tail lights.  well, some people didn't want to pay for them, so
they just stole them off my car.  it happened twice, and after that, i
put the cheese grater tail lights back on.
