[s-cars] Hose fitting?

In checking through the engine compartment on a '95 S6 I recently bought, I 
notced what seems to be a missing vacuum hose. Or Not?  On top of the turbo 
there's a cannister about 5/6" in diameter.  At the rear side there's a 
nipple/hose connector.  But the previous owner had stuck a 2" piece of  hose 
on that nipple and then blocked that hose with a golf tee.  Does anybody know 
what the correct connection is for that hose?

The engine and turbo  run fine
