Subject: [s-cars] 92 S4 vs '01 S4 vs '01 A6 2.7T
Guys,
Looking for some opinions.
I'm slowly considering moving on from my 92 S4 310k km (ABT Sport
springs/ Koni shocks/ K24 Turbo) to something newer.
The '04 S4 is out of control expensive so I'm trying to find a suitable
alternative.
The obvious choices are either a '01 S4 or a '01 A6 2.7T with sport
package/6 speed.
I have a family of 4 and there were never Avants available in Canada.
:-(.
How are the rides between the two?
Is the S4 suspension more stiff/tight then the A6 sport suspension?
Does the weight difference make a big difference?
Thanks
Andreas Schneider
Andreas-
I'm in the same boat... OK in my pretend world... see I always have my next
2 cars lined up, bought and sold, heh heh.
I've driven both, and coming from a C4 (one with 'personality'), the B5 S4
simply does nothing for me. Not to mention it's too f'n SMALL. Very small,
esp. if you've grown accustomed to the spacious C4, more esp. that you have
a family. Sure it's light, fast, nimble, whatever, the car lacks f'n SOUL.
Though maybe I'd more closely consider a B5 Avant... them are at least cool
looking.
Now, I don't have enough seat time in the C5t, but even if it too has the
same devoidness of soul as the B5, hell, at least I wouldn't ALSO be
compromising space. Damn, same motor, tranny, brakes, better body, more
room, more upscale (read less riceprone), to me then it's a no brainer.
Yes, the B5 is stiffer than the C5t out of the box, who cares. IMHO, if
you're used to the Koni etc. ride of a '92, the B5 is going to be too soft
for you anyway and you'll be swapping in a suspension. Do that to a C5 and
who's you're buddy?
-Paul let the market fall on the 2.7ts too, hell, why not Allroads while
we're at it K.
