[s-cars] 92 S4 vs '01 S4 vs '01 A6 2.7T

I have pretty long legs and love the leg extensions; do the 01 A6 sport
seats have these?
It was really hard to tell with the pictures I have seen.
My mother drives a 99 A6 2.8 Avant and I have five huge problems with
it.
1. no power
2. crappy seats
3. tiptronic
4. ultra soft suspension
5. and the smallest passenger mirror in existence.
I am hoping the sport package and 6 speed would address all these
issues.
The xenon light would be really cool. For more then half the year I
drive in the dark on country road for 1 hour to and from work.
Unfortunately there were never any s4-s6 Avants in Canada, otherwise I'd
have two.
I dealer has both cars on the lot with Audi certified warranty, great to
test back to back, unfortunately it's a 2 hour drive and the 92 is
waiting for a suspension part.
Driving the wife's F0rster with kids would drive me bonkers.
The Allroad will no age gracefully enough, and yes the rounded butt of
the A6 is not attractive but there seems to be no alternative.
RS6 Avant is dream car, as Sean put it, looking for a used on 2010.

Guys,
Looking for some opinions.
I'm slowly considering moving on from my 92 S4 310k km (ABT Sport
springs/ Koni shocks/ K24 Turbo) to something newer.
The '04 S4 is out of control expensive so I'm trying to find a suitable
alternative.
The obvious choices are either a '01 S4 or a '01 A6 2.7T with sport
package/6 speed.
I have a family of 4 and there were never Avants available in Canada.
:-(.
How are the rides between the two?
Is the S4 suspension more stiff/tight then the A6 sport suspension?
Does the weight difference make a big difference?
Having owned a 92 S4 and now owning a 01 A6 2.7T. I can give you the
scoop.
I liked the suspension on the 92 S4. It was the euro version, nice and
tight. I don't have the sport package in my 2.7 but I would have picked
it had I the opportunity. The power delivery with the 2.7 is much
smoother. It has just as much power and better delivery. I have the 6
speed and I love it. You will love the xenon headlights. You will also
like the ability to fold down the rear seats, something the urS4 never
had. The one thing that I do miss are the seats out of the urS4. Those
had to be the best seats in the world. The leg extension was so nice.
I don't know if the sport seats in the new A6 are just as good. If I
were you, I would stay away from the new S4. If you have kids, you will
want the room. Having owned a 97A4, the back seats were hell for anyone
back there. The A6 just fits well.
All in all, my opinion is this. The A6 performs just as well as the
urS4 but has 10 years of modern sophistication built into it. I like
that!
