Rich-

Sounds to me like your rear drive-shaft c/v bearing is worn.  I had this same 
problem around this time last year as did a couple other listers.
Remedies:

1. If bearing is not too far gone, you can simply repack (do the front too).

2. New drive-shaft.  Pricey and hard to find.

3. Depending on how good you (or your mechanic) are at finding and 
retrofitting parts you can replace just the bearing.  Audi does not offer any 
replacement parts for the drive-shaft.
