Craig,
Not to worry.
These guys are blowing smoke at you, trying to scare you into selling
the car to one of them. They haven't said so yet, but if I'd not
said anything it would have come next.
You don't have to do all that stuff to the car, it's really great
just the way it is. Sure, definitely do the timing belt, idler
pulley and water pump - it's easier to do than on the earlier
4000/5000 cars.
After you get that stuff in tip-top shape, then treat yourself
to a $600 bonus package. Just put a modified chip in the computer,
like the Intended Acceleration stage III kit. It'll raise the HP
from 230 to 275/280 and really increase the torque! It will seem
like a totally different car!
Those guys talking about a slippery slope and all that stuff are
just whining about their misfortunes ... restrain yourself and
just go with a chip kit and you'll be delighted! Guaranteed!
And if you really decide you need to get rid of your wallet,
don't do something silly like bury it, send it to me!
