[s-cars] Fumoto Valve and Michelin Man Issues

Dave, are you sure that the oil is leaking out of the
valve itself and not at the washer? The reason I ask is that
I had a problem with oil slowly weaping around the blue
elastomeric washer that comes with the Fumoto valve.
Repeated re-tightening didn't seem to help much.
It seemed like the washer had hardened and lost its resilience,
possibly from the heat and/or oil exposure.
So I just replaced the blue washer with an OEM copper drain
plug washer. There has been no leakage at all since this was
done about 2 years ago.
I did verify that the copper washer is softer than the
brass Fumoto valve with a simple scratch test.
So presumably the annealed copper washer will deform
and flatten before the brass flange on the valve does.
Paul
