[s-cars] Chip - best choice

Folks:

All this concern over knocking (preignition) with the Hoppen 1+ chip.  I
just don't get it.  Doesn't the AAN have a knock sensor that dials things
back in the ECU should it begin to occur, and before damage is done (i.e.,
if you get a bum load of gas, the ECU compensates)?  I have been running NY
state gas since I had the chip installed three years ago and frankly haven't
noted the dreaded bucket of bolts sound emanating from underhood.  I run
Getty Premium usually which is 92 octane or Shell (93 octane) as well as
commodity (no name) premium now and again. 

Just curious.  

And, BTW, yes, the Hoppen 1+ does have the on/off characteristic, but call
me foolish, I enjoy the sensation.

Keep in mind that the reliability discussed is usually at full throttle.
One would argue that driving a stock car at full throttle all the time will
cause reliability problems of a different sort.

That being said, if you want to maintain stock driveability on pump gas, get
one of the less agressive chipsets for the stock turbo (i.e., not the MTM
1+).
