Well folks,

I feel like sharing the good news. On Saturday, we took delivery of our 2nd
S6. We already have a 1995 S6 Avant (UK spec). My wife was driving an old
1989 Audi 100 2.2E Avant until the headlight switch started playing up. She
insisted that we swap cars until I fixed the switch and I scared myself
silly when driving her car in slippy conditions. Sloppy suspension,
grabbing brakes, a partially functioning handbrake, intermittent lights and
a wheel bearing on the way out made for VERY exciting driving.

So, I decided it was time to get another car - preferably near identical to
mine to allow fault diagnosis by part swapping. Most of the S6 cars here in
the UK seem to be automatic, so it can be difficult to find the six-speed
manuals, but I eventually found one in Kent - about 150 miles away. It's a
burgundy early-1996 S6 saloon, and it's beautiful! It's done a few less
miles than mine (78K instead of 85K) and it feels much tighter. I think I
need to replace all the anti-roll bar bushings on mine - and maybe the track
arms as well.

The only faults I can find with the new car are:
Flaps seized in the aircon - unable to manually control flow to upper,
grille and lower vents.
Whinge message from Engine ECU about mixture adaptation (not serious? -
passed the emissions test with flying colours last month)
Left front speaker u/s
Clock lamp out
Elec Window switch lamp out

Do these faults justify the GBP33,000 depreciation that this car has
suffered in the last 8 years? I don't think so!

Anyway, we've now joined the select group of 'his and hers S6' families.
Let's hope they prove reliable over the next 10 years or so.
