[s-cars] Wastegate modification & adjustment

Been reading a lot of old posts about DV valves & wastegate. Decided to
try adjusting mine this morning. Noticed with it taken apart that the
nut in the centre when tightened it torques the diaphragm. So instead of
screwing down this nut I preloaded the spring by placing a spacer behind
the spring perch.

 

I guess what I'd like to know, is what it did correct?

How do you prevent the diaphragm from turning & tighten the nut?

Is this a stupid idea & should I just leave it alone??
