Subject: [s-cars] Boost gauge for cluster installation (clock replacement)
Ah, if it were only that easy, we'd all have in dash boost gauges.
Unfortunately, it isn't easy at all. Those three "gauges" (clock, oil
temp, oil press/voltmeter) are not three separate units. They are
integrated via a printed circuit board. IF you replace the clock, you
have to find away to patch around the hole you need to create for the
boost gauge. Bob Pastore's install is at the far right hand side
(presumably replacing a volt meter) with a no longer available back-lit
SPI boost gauge. It could still be done but I don't think the all the
work would be worth it. You would have an indash boost gauge but it
still wouldn't be perfect and the location (line of sight) is bad. The
Autometer pillar pod (20191 for an A4) and tapping into the boost line
in the engine compartment, going through one of two available grommets
and getting switched lighting from the Green/yellow wire coming out of
fuse position No. 7 is an easier way to go. Gauges go from an
inexpensive (side lit) Autometer Phantom 5703 to a much more expensive
Greddy 2 5/8" back lit (still fits in the 20191 pond with some Dremel
work ala Sean Douglas's (quattro20v) recent very neat install).
But hey, what do I know?
