Mike,

That's something that I've noticed with my car as well.  When the A/C 
is on, it sounds like a fighter-jet on the tarmac ready to take off.  
I've received several comments about it and more than a few "Why is 
your car so LOUD?"   I didn't figure out it was the A/C until I had the 
compressor off one day and the windows down and noticed how quiet the 
car was otherwise. The good news is, I don't notice it unless I'm 
outside of the car, and in some ways, the fighter-jet analogy just 
makes me smile.  Heh.
