well.. my favorite car was my 90 T-bird Supercoupe. any of my friends who
drove it would say something like "I can't believe the pick up on this
thing." And I'd say...."well my friend, that is the difference between
torque and horsepower."
I'd prefer a supercharger. not just less lag, zero lag.
the 90 supercoupe had 200-something horsepower but 315 lbs of torque at
(any) maybe 1000 rpms.
3.8 liter. felt like a 5.7.
I just hate waiting for that turbo to get going. highway driving is
great. But I live in San Francisco and waiting for that thing to get going
to pull me up a hill is really annoying at times.
Just to give you all an idea. If you are accidentally in 2nd gear at 1800
RPM going up hill the car will slow and stall. I, of course being the
expert driver that I am, can quickly throw it back into 1st and avoid the
problem. But a few times (once with my favorite chick driving), the car
could not do the hill. I warned her, "back to first gear...quickly!" she
was not quick enough and it slowed down and quit, and left us on a (what
seems like a 45 degree hill) at a stand still stop. And then...a huge
PITA to get it going again. But she learned quickly. Guy behind us
honking.... but we got thru it.
That is what I do not like about turbos.
