Tom - I just tracked down a similar leak in my S6 Avant.  Coolant was
leaking far back by the firewall, eventually on both sides. Pulling the
plastic cover off showed signs of leakage around a valve on the drivers side
of the airbox.  It appeared that coolant was leaking there and dripping down
through the drain holes.

The valve was about $50 US at the stealer.  Swapping it out was
straightforward with the exception of a tiny Phillips head screw that was a
real pain to remove and put back.

No more leaks (knock on wood).
