Not sure what to make of these comments. The part I'm replacing encompasses
both inner and outer balljoints in the rear. The bearings (I assume you mean
wheel bearings) seems fine.

I hope I haven't cross threaded the nut. I don't think so though. It looks
straight. I think I'll try the brake fluid thing. I applied some penetrant
on the nut and it probably crept up into the seat area. As for the puller,
I'm having a hard time picturing what you are describing, but I'm going to
go look at some pullers to see if I can get the idea.
Anyone got any ideas where the clunking was actually coming from? My
suspicion is that I didn't tighten the shock shaft nut all the way.
