No your motor doesn't care what the temperature is at the intercooler inlet.
The ECU needs to know the temp immediately prior to pushing the charged air
into the cylinder. I believe the intake air temp sensor is in the intake
manifold, after the throttle body. The section in the Bentley is at J
28-19 to 2x. It's item #26 in Bentley's illustration 24-743. The sensor
is located on the intake manifold, immediate "behind" the Throttle body.
