[s-cars] Noisy serpentine belt

JR;

These belts run quiet - you have an underlying problem somewhere. Either you
have the wrong belt, a mis-aligned pulley, a belt-driven accessory pulling
too much power (i.e. alternator with a bad bearing) or the serpentine belt
tensioner is shot. These belts are automatically tensioned by a spring
loaded tensioner and do not have to be adjusted. Find the problem and fix
it - if the belt fails, it can take the timing belt with it, bending those
(very expensive) 20 valves in the head.

Subject: [s-cars] Noisy serpentine belt

My serpentine belt has just over 5K on it and it's squealing like a
stuck pig already. Why does this happen? What should I do about it?
Spray on belt dressing renders it silent for about 20 minutes and then
it's back to squealing away. What can I do to prevent this from
happening so fast next time I replace it? Is there a better belt or do
I need to adjust it somehow?

Thanks,

JR
