Sean,

get a plastic cement (Belzona or similar) or some epoxy based stuff and hose
clamp and carefully glue the tab back on with hose clamp over. New stock
pipe is POS - too soft and will cave in once you get the clamps tight. The
original is much stronger ... Can't speak for e-bay.

George

Subject: [s-cars] Hole in Cross-over Tube

Today, under full boost, I heard a loud whoosh/whistle and loss of power
- sounds like one of the boost hoses let go. Funny thing was that the PSI
didn't drop by much, maybe 5 PSI.

Headed straight home and put it on jackstands. Removed upper IC>TB hose
- good. Pulled michelin man - good. Inspected the x-over tube and lo and
behold, I found a small 1 cm dia hole in the x-over tube on the upper side
near the michelin man (my 1997 has the plastic tube rather than S4s which
got a metal one). Turns out the mounting tab had broken off and the plastic
tube was rubbing against the mounting stud wearing through the tube. As a
temporary fix, I wrapped it with duct tape and re-mounted the x-over tube so
its not contacting anything. Also, the m-man hose was rubbing against a
rubber line (hydraulic, I think) and had started to wear this through too.
The hydraulic line was rubbing so much that the metal braiding is starting
to show!. A quick test drive showed that the duct tape is holding, I guess
it will have to do until I can find a replacement. I priced a new x-over at
the dealer and it retails for $268, ouch! (that's Canadian dollars, BTW).

Anyone have a good (cheap) source for a new x-over tube? Are the metal ones
from the S4s still available? I seem to recall someone selling a fabricated
metal x-over tube, either on this list or ebay a little while ago. Anyone
remember?

Thanks,

Sean
