Fellow Scar gurus,
I have had a strange problem with my wife's S4, intermittent spongey
brakes. Well my mechanic told me today that the hydraulic brake booster
has failed allowing the brake fluid pressure to go into the power
steering system instead of be applied to the brakes.
His recipe for repair is to replace the brake booster, master cylinder,
brake presure accumulator, and the rubber brake lines at each wheel
cylinder. He believes the mix of fluids may have damaged the brake
lines (and fears they could blow out), and the presure accumulator and
master cylinder (seals maybe).
My questons to you knowleedgable gentleman are:
1.Does this sound analysis correct to you?
2.How time consuming is job?
3.Are any special tools needed to complete this job?
These are the best prices I haev found for the parts:
$239 Master Cylinder
$250 Pressure Accumulator
$490 Hydraulic brake booster
$23.10 ea front hoses
$17.25 ea rear hoses
Obviously I will also need to get new fluids. Because I haven't had to
replace any of the hydraulic fluids yet I am unsure what I will need
there. Do I understand correctly that the brakes and power steering
take different fluids and both should be replaced?
Thanks alot
Chris
Damn I hope this doesn't stop my RS upgrade!
