switches

Well, I kick myself as one of those "I know I knew, I just didn't want to
deal with it now I can do it latter ....." Pay the piper now, or pay him
latter etc. re-discovery of IIRC several listers BTDT.
Yeah, ignore the lists collective wisdom/experience BTDT at ones peril. I
knew the ignition switch in the Avant was starting to get a little sketchy,
sticky etc., about returning to zero after starting. But take heed &
immediately do something about it? Noooooo, I'm smart enough to watch this,
catch the switch when it's sticking and making sure it has disengaged with
whatever it engages with etc.
Result, several pull into the garage over the course of the last two weeks
with a "What's that "hot" smell? Could I have a front brake caliper
sticking or dragging (No)? Is it a wheel bearing? No..... It's the starter
remaining engaged after starting the car.
FWIW, I think one can get @ 500 to 600 miles on an electric starter before
it will refuse to start the car any longer.
The short BTDT, if (or when) you find your ignition key return to neutral
start to "stick" in the crank over engine position, even if you think you
can manually twist it back to the neutral position, DON'T. And don't put
off sooner, rather than latter getting the switch repaired, or face the
prospects of R&R both the ignition switch and the starter motor.
