Hi Trevor,
My 94 S4 stopped blowing cold July 03 and I took it to
a local tire/service place. They were not able to
deal with the AC system, probably because of high
pressure line only thing, even though I gave them info
from my Bentley CD.
Then I went to a mechanic familiar with Audis and he
recharged the system for about $100 ($77 labor, $18
parts). This included the dye thing and no leaks
could be detected.
Well, it stopped blowing cold again May 04 and I went
back in. I figured I had a leak at that point.
Recharged for about $155 ($122 labor, $30 parts).
Once again, no leak detected. He said to bring it in
as soon as it stopped blowing cold and he would look
for a leak. He felt that the leak is so small that
he's not detecting it. (Or he just wants to get some
$ out of me on a yearly basis.)
So, my advice is don't try to do it yourself, take it
to someone familiar with Audi AC systems.
HTH
