"Redesigned" might be a little strong.  The rear distributor drive was drop,
but the hole & fitting for a drive are still there, just capped off with a
plug.  A 3B head can be used in an AAN if you (a) cap the distributor hole,
the parts, a plug, one clamp and a nut are available from Audi; and (b) have
a cam position trigger adapted and fitted to the head.  I believe this was
even done on some early factory heads

There are 1995 (non EDL) Avants.  These come with switchable rear diff
locks.
