We seem to have some coil pack issues and I thought I would share my findings
on CPs and PSOs. These 2 electronic items have been a source of frustration
to our community for years. Here are some things I've noticed. First, if the
miss is boost or heat(engine has to be warm) related, then the problem is
typically a coil pack. If the miss is more or less constant, then its a PSO.
On my recent anniversary trip to Telluride, I had a coil pack issue on the
way home. My car would start missing at exactly 10 psi of boost. I figured it
was a CP and sure enough it was. When I got home that night and after the engine
had a chance to cool off, I pulled the CP cover. There it was. The #4 CP had
a glob of black ooze next to it that had hardened. I swapped it with a spare
and presto, problem solved. All these CPs were replaced with new right before I
left for the ACNA Nationals last November and had less than 6000 miles on
them. Go figure. Good night from Evahboost.
