[s-cars] wheel offset

Hey listers: Help!  Road rash has caught up to my original '93 S4 wheels.  Time to go from the stock 16X8 to 17 or 18.  I was always under the impression that the offset to my stock wheels was 35mm.  Looking on the URS4 web site, I note that it is 40mm.  Question: If going to 17X8.5 with 255-40-17s, is offset of 38mm good to go? How about 18s?  Need some feedback please, JD
