[s-cars] Peculiar? Outside Temp Display Behavior

All:

Throughout the winter my temp display did not illuminate.  I was thinking
the classic bulb out issue.  With warmer weather now (60+F) here in the DC
area, the temp display is again illuminated.  I'm happy for it as I suck at
soldering but leads me to believe it is a crack in a solder joint that seals
up upon warmer temperatures and expansion.  Also, the illumination does not
come full on immediately, but rather comes on as though a dimmer switch is
being turned up.  It has been so long that I cannot recall if this is
normal.
