Well if you wanted to "start right" you might want to think about the
data / analysis posted up by Eric Barger at
http://www.installuniversity.com/ under Calculating VE and its followup
"How Does Your Car Stack Up?" tabs.
Bager's group put an LS1 engine on an "Auto Tap" device which allowed
them to data log and convert the MAF voltage signals to an Air Flow Rate
expressed in lbs/min at various rpm speeds ranging from @ 1,236 rpm to
6,300. Their recorded VE for the LS1 engine (non turbo application),
ranged from a low of @ 9% (yes NINE) at 1,674 rpm to a high of 85% (i.e.
say 80% to 84%) in the 3,973 to 5,500 rpm range droping off to 73% at
6,300.

Eric notes "This calculator is equally applicable to all motors,
naturally aspirated (NA), turbocharged and supercharged. For an NA
motor, just set the boost to zero and set the IC parameters to zero.
Supercharged motors will have a higher SFC than turbo motors due to
parasitic losses in driving the compressor, but are otherwise the same.
Any boosted or non-boosted motor can have an intercooler or water
injection, try it.
You need to make educated guesses on three significant numbers for this
calculator:
Volumetric Efficiency (VE)
Air Fuel Ratio (AFR)
Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC)
If you have grossly bad values for any of these three quantities, then
the estimated results will be correspondingly bad.
Other values such as turbo and IC efficiency are not nearly so sensitive
(try a test with 50% and 100%, then look at the difference in HP values.

Next question, anyone on list have any idea of the Ve of our motors in
our
stock, and general modded states.
General modded meaning rs2 MAF, EM, maybe even cams.
I suspect if I am going to look at turbos, I may as well do it right.
