I just had to print off the list and check off all the ones that I could honestly say have applied. A total of 43. Going to have to work on some of the others ;-)
I used to drive my race car back and forth to the track as I couldn't afford a truck and trailer, nor did I have room for them at the apartment I was living in at the time. So the race car was insured and registered. Just slapped on a rear muffler when we drove it on the street.
I got a chuckle out of the "You've slalomed in a construction zone...", as one time when we were driving back from Watkins Glen on I-88 we came across a long, long section of perfectly spaced cones in a construction zone. So, it being a Sunday afternoon with no traffic I obviously couldn't resist. My friend behind me decided to join in and we got into a pretty good rhythm at about 65mph. We decided to stop after about a 1/2 mile, which was a good thing as right around the bend was one of NY state's finest on the side of the road.
Other memorable moments:
- Driving back from Lime Rock Park on I-84 in CT, at a particularly good clip, and getting "Point by's" (driver being overtaken points to which side he wants you to pass on) from other race drivers in their tow vehicles as I came up behind them.
- While on I-84 near Hartford having a little kid in a car beside me roll his window down and yell out "Hey meeester. Is that a race car?"
- Having to drive 400+ miles back from Watkins Glen with a bent rear trailing arm and the car dog tracking worse than an old Chevy Nova with a broken leaf spring.
- And several times, when the car wasn't drivable, just slapping the plates on to my friends race car (same car) and driving his home while he trailered mine back. We always made it a point to make sure we didn't crash both cars on any given weekend...as if we had any control over that ;-)
