My 2 cents -
Are K&N filters bad? Not really -- K&N makes a quality product IMO. Have
used them off and on over the years on two and four wheeled vehicles,
with with no problems. Your experience, of course, may vary.
Will K&N filters give me big, cheap hp? Not really. Read an interview
some time ago with some K&N exec, who admitted that the airflow thru the
K&N is not DRAMATICALLY different than stock units. Too much flow and
suddenly you're operating outside of OEM parameters. That, and with too
much flow, the filters not quite doing its filtering job.
Most important question -- are you too lazy too clean and (properly)
re-oil your filter? Who? Me? Yeah, probably. I've picked up K&N's over
the years, mainly on Saturdays, when the stealer's parts dept is closed.
Always used them as disposables. A BIT more intake noise on some
applications, anyway, if you're after that.
Conclusion -- don't look to K&N to turn your Ur-S into an RS6. OTOH,
don't sweat it if a K&N resides under the hood.
