Subject: [s-cars] driveshaft center bearing support

I am experiancing a driveline "wobble" on my '95 S6 when accelerating in 1st
& 2nd gear, along with some "tinny" metalic noise. First thought is was a
bad motor mount, then thought it was a bad front outer CV joint. Turns out
it is the center bearing support on the driveshaft... the rubber surround
has deteriorated. The metalic noise was probably the heat sheilds vibrating
in sympathy!

I've been searching the list archives for recommend solutions because Audi
doesn't make individual parts available, only the entire drive$haft. There
is some discussion about the possibility of using a BMW or MB center bearing
assembly, but there don't seem to be any definite conclusions, and I can't
seem to find a write-up from someone who has done it, although I gather it
is not a simple bolt up--some kind of adaptor brackets need to be fabricated
I gather.

Does anyone have any specific recommendations?

P.S. I did pick up lubricating the front CV joint. I'll have my mechanic
check that also, but he already confirmed the rubber surround on the center
bearing has failed.
