[s-cars] Strange Electronics - Burglar Alarm Locking Me In

Hi guys - Sorry if this is a redundant mail. I was having problems with the
list server and not receiving anything.
 
I have some odd things going on electronically and could use some advice. I
have a '92 S4 that has been locking me inside the car and won't allow me to
start the car. The sequence goes roughly like this: Unlock the car with the
key, hop inside, close the door, the alarm sets and doors automatically
lock. Then the starter won't engage when turning the key in the ignition.In
order to get it started, I need to turn the key to "on", then roll down the
window and unlock the car from the outside using the key. This then allows
the starter to engage. I was thinking the battery might be suspect and
purchased a new one, but I continue to have the same symptoms. Additionally,
the IR key now no longer works.
 
I'm hoping there's some sort of burglar alarm reset that will get the locks
and ignition back in synch and another method to get the IR key to work
again.
 
Any insight appreciated.
