It's SAAB's acronym for Automatic Performance Control (APC)
There must be some lead one can tie an LED to, for a "visual"
cabin knock indicator light see e.g.
  http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/6776/apc.html
for an example of a LED indicator installed in a Volvo/SAAB application.

SAAB seems to be given a lot of credit for pioneering the knock sensor
control.
http://web.inter.nl.net/users/turbo-team-europe/apc.htm sets forth a
pretty comprehensive explanation of the SAAB system. Perhaps there's
some hint in there on how to isolate an LED signal for the Audi system.

My lamentably faultily memory seems to recall that there was some
discussion of doing this on one of the Audi lists, probably the old
Audifans.com mother list, a number of years, circa 1999 or so, back.
Does anyone else on the list recall such a thread, or the solution to
intercepting the knock signal and using it to trigger a dash cabin
display?

It probably would be a neat trick to be able to do to mount a red knock
indicator light say in the bezel or gauge pod, just below the boost
gauge.
