I've been told by a veteran (25+ years) auto mechanic that the only
reason any would ever need/use higher octane fuel, other than for racing
purposes, is to reduce or prevent pinging.
In other words, if your car doesn't ping don't waste your money on
higher octane for normal driving purposes.
I suspect I'll be receiving rebuttals to this.

In Europe they say "recommended : 98 RON", "95 RON is possible but with
lower performance and worse gas mileage"...
98 RON is about 93 R+M/2
