Hartmann,
There is a bushing at the inside end of the tie rod
where it attaches to the steering rack. That may have
play in it as well causing alignment troubles. It is
possible to replace just the ends, and even just one
of the ends.
The complete solution is to replace all 4 joints, but
I would want to inspect them myself before letting a
shop do it all for full retail parts + full labor.
Good luck,
Rich

Hi Everybody,
I recently had my 1995 S6Q in the shop for an
alignment after getting
new
tires. The shop couldn't get the front left wheel
into spec because it
needed a new tie rod end. The shop wants to replace
both sides with
the
full tie rod assembly, not just the tie rod end. Is
this customary?
Is
there sound rationale for doing all of this work?
Thanks for your insight,
Hartmann
