Well, this track event did not go without incident. At the end of the first
session, I ruptured a coolant line coming from the side of the turbo. In the
bright sunshine I was having a hard time identifying the source of the leak. To
the rescue came Chad Clark who had come out to give some loyal Audi support.
He had previously ruptured the very same hose and before you knew it he had it
off the car. As we were examining the culprit hose, Dave Dawson from Evahboost
called to see if Chad was out at 2nd Creek. Chad was able to steer Dave and
Ben, driving his 20 valve stroker urquattro, to a parts store and 30 minutes
later they showed up at the track with a replacement. On it went and we were
back in service.

Now how did the car perform? Awesome! If there is a track in Colorado or
anywhere really where the lighter E-36 and E-46 Bimmers would have an advantage it
would be 2nd Creek. Unfortunately there were no curent generation M5s:-( In
the A rungroup were 2 E-46 M3s and 3 E-36 M3s 2 of which were turbocharged! On
that first session we were supposed to be out there for some track
familiarization. In the grid I happened to pull up behind a sinister all black E-36 M3
that was a stage 2 Active Autoworks(?) car. Well, I don't know about you guys
but when there's a car in front of me I just want to get passed it. The grid
meister let him have a goodly amount of track before he let me out there and
the chase was on. Did I mention this track was tight and we were running it
backwards, just to make it more interesting with literally no runouts where you
need them. My car handled and performed in a magnificent manner. It hauled ass!
It took me 2 laps to reel in Mr Turbo M3. He could pull me slightly coming out
of the slow corners in 2nd but I had him back halfway through 3rd. He never
would let me pass, even though I camped out on his bumper for most of the
session. With the checker flag in sight at the end of the session the coolant line
blew and you know that story. I made one more session in the afternoon and
didn't have the coolant all the way full and started to heat things up a bit so I
cut it a little short, but not before I left one of the E-46 M3s far back on
the track

After that session I decided to call it a day and make sure with Dave Jones
that the car was 100%. I want to thank all the guys for coming out to see the
Happersized Special run with the Bimmers. Mike Pederson, Dave Dawson, Chad
Clark, Ben, Frank Amoroso, and others I can't remember. I did get a lot of
friendly ribbing for blowing that hose from the BMW crowd but there was not another
car that they all were coming to check out like my car. They couldn't believe
that such a large car could brake and turn with the smaller BMWs. And, everyone
couldn't stop talking about the sounds from my car. There is nothing like the
I-5 on song and on boost with the addition of the BPV firing while I shift.
Awesome!

I've got another track day this Saturday with all sorts of high end cars.
This one will be at PPIR and high banked oval turns for the firdt time for me.
Woohoo, can't wait.

Hap, signin off from Evahboost with Dahkine big smile, Maguire
