Smoked taillights might reduce your visibility, but they're no worse
than the Mustang and Camaro drivers with smoked taillight and headlight
covers.

Just remember that, while going with the smoked taillights might look
cool, in fact you will be cutting down the visibility of your car. What
many North Americans forget is that in order for the smoked taillights
to be German TUV-approved, you have to add passive red reflectors on
your bumper, etc. to maintain the same level of night visibility as
with the OEM taillights. These reflectors strips are often left off
here (N Am.) because they are "dorky" (or whatever). In fact they are
required. I think it would be interesting if your car was rear-ended
and a savvy insurance adjuster figured out what was going on. I suspect
that you would be SOL.

But, hey, that's just me and my paranoid mind. Personally, I converted
my rear foglights (both sides) to run two filament 5/21W bulbs so I have
3 x 5W x 2 = 30 W for running lights (versus 1 x 5W x 2 = 10 W for Euro
taillights) and 42 W per side for signal lights.
