[s-cars] Serpentine Belt tensioner/fan pulley/bearing

The ideas you guys are tossing around with rebuilding
these tensioners sound cool. But I have to add a
caution. I pulled my old tensioner out and compared it
with the brand new $230 one I got from my stealer. The
new tensioner had almost double the spring strength,
the pulley was smoother and spun freely. I just
wouldn't trust rebuilding the things.

And, if you don't change the tensioner very bad things
can happen. A friend got a timing belt job done at the
local stealer and a month later the tensioner failed.
The belt wrapped around things, broke the timing belt
cover and actually snapped the timing belt. The dealer
gave him a new head after much argument but still
charged him the labor to fix everything.

My recomendation to everyone is just cough up the 230
bucks.

Cheers,
Rich
