I'll have to let the marine environment guys handle part of your request, 
Mike.  However, here's a small BTDT but not for an Audi.  In 1977 I built a 
rather large barn and put a galvanized steel roof on it.  Several years 
later, about the mid-late 80's the roof was beginning to show rust.  I 
painted it with some paint which I got from ("through" rather than "from" 
might be more descriptive) some paint which contained something like 40% 
powdered zinc.  The roof is just now beginning to show rust again.  Two 
effects, as I see it: 1. the paint simply protected the roof from the 
environment by providing a physical barrier and 2. the zinc helped by 
replacing (or augmenting) the galvanizing which came from the factory.  I 
don't know if a similar product is available for automotive purposes.
