There was a suitable product, no longer available as far as I know;
killed off by high cromium prices during the '70s. It reacted with the
rust to form a very hard, and difficult to get re-rusting coating.
Permatex has an acrylic product with something functionally similar in
it, but it doesn't work well for painting car bodies. I haven't seen
the bare chemical since the '70's.
