Let's get real here. We are talking about two very different cars coming
from two very different driving style countries. The Ur-S4/S6 simply is the
best of all worlds. It won't do any particular thing perfectly not will it
win in any individual performance class. But in an all around test of tests,
the S4 will clobber the Mustang (snow, wet test included). The second part
of the issue is the driver. It takes a brilliant driver to pilot a higher HP
RWD V8 car around a solo2 course or a track, to the point of perfection.
Same goes for an S4, neon, beetle-bug or whatever. The S4 due to quattro is
more forgiving and therefore a little easier to throw into corners. But a
really good AWD racer (re: WRC) will know how to properly set-up a turn
(asphalt or dirt) in an AWD car to maintain speed and overcome understeer
with a little throttle and weight transfer.

3 weeks ago i had the fortune to put a last gen Firebird ram-air in it's
place. I knew the punk driving it, he's the local hot-shoe. I pulled in
front of him leaving work, heading up through the twisties over a mountain
towards home. Although he kept on my bumper until the first turn, i easily
distanced him through a section of 3rd gear corners and even on the
straights he didn't get much closer than a hundred feet. All i got is a TAP
chip, K&N and a good tune, 17's and kumhos. My car is faster and better
handling than a Ram air??? Doubt it big time. The driver shouldn't have been
behind the wheel. Put the great local-to-me SCCA GT1Corvette driver Kerry
Hitt behind the wheel and he woulda found a way around me on the outside
even. Anyway, take allot of schools and track time events, and your S4/S6
will magically turn into a much better handling car.
