Tinkering is cool, but there are definitely some cars I wouldn't modify at all:

'04 996GT3
E39 chassis M5 (well, maybe just the front brakes)
C5 vette Z06
Lotus Elise
993 RS 3.8
'73 911 RS
S8 6-speed
Vanquish
550 Barchetta

the list goes on

That's what I like about it. It's a work in progress. My car is *my* car,
custonized to the way I want it. You can't do that with 98% of the cars sold
today, nor would you want to.

The manufacturers sell cars for the masses, even the 300 people that wanted
S6 avants in 1995. So its up to the aftermarket and resources like this list
and BIRA.org and others to help with the customization.

My first question, when considering the purchase of a new-to-me car is "What
should I change *first*? I posed this question yesterday about the Audi
Allroad, and got some great answers - reprogram the suspension to lower it,
fat sway bars, remove power steering boost relay, etc.)

I don't think I would buy a car that I could just *drive*...
