Larry,
Try this procedure:

1.Open the driver's door.
2.Take one key and turn on the ignition.
3.Close the driver's door.
4.Lock the car with a second key.

5a. On the remote control you want to program as "remote 1",
press the Open button exactly one time.
5b. Wait 6 seconds.
5c. On the same remote control, push the Open button exactly one
    more time.

6.If steps 5a-c worked, the lights may flash and the car will unlock.
7.Open the driver's door.
8.Remove the key from the ignition.

Now you can test the remote by locking the door with it.

Notes:
1) If you want to program multiple remotes, the additional
remotes get more than one button press in step 5a.
"Remote 2" gets two presses at one second intervals, etc.
2) At most 4 presses are valid.
If you press 5 times, it erases all the stored remote controls.
3) Important: Note step 5c; after the final
   (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th)press,
you have to press again after 6 seconds.
4) The manual says that the car will beep after each press, but I have
seen some cars where it does not beep, and you have to go on blind.
5) The manual implies that after this procedure is performed then Remote 1
will be assigned to seat memory 1. I am not sure about this bit at all.
I think you may have to go through the key to seat memory assignment
procedure after you've done the remote procedure.
