Dave,
IMO, it all comes down to the backhousing. A properly
sized GT30R should spool up around 3400 or so. I know
that's past your goal, but such is life.
On a 2.0, a GT30 spools by 4k, so take that with a
grain of salt, pepper and a little bit of extra virgin
olive oil.
