[s-cars] Spade Pins for Male Connector? (common sense
soldseparately)

You used to be able to buy both halves of the connectors at the VW or Audi
dealers. Just check the Special Catalog section of the FA and you'll find
all the connector part numbers. However, they're no longer of any use
because 6-8 years ago VAG, in their infinite wisdom, decided that their
mechanics couldn't be trusted to properly operate a ratchet crimping tool
for attaching terminals during harness repair work. Apparently they had
some problems with repairs not being done properly when replacing individual
connectors.
So they came up with this brilliant system with all the connector terminals
pre-crimped to a wire of various gauges, in any color you want as long as
it's yellow, and then they splice this wire into the existing wire using a
special weather proof butt splice. I don't understand the logic that says
the mechanic can't be trusted to operate a crimp tool to attach a terminal
on the end of the wire, but he can be trusted to operate a crimp tool on a
butt splice. And, I would think that the crimp on a butt splice is inferior
to the "W" crimp (I believe that's what AMP calls them) used on the terminal
ends.
So when VAG started rolling out their big tackle boxes filled with 18"
yellow wires with terminals at both ends, I stopped by the local VW and Audi
dealers and bought whatever of the loose terminals they had left.
You can buy the individual terminals from AMP (search under the Faston name)
or from Wurth. I wasn't able to find the newer style female terminals with
the split, spring loaded fingers from AMP. I'm sure they make them but it
wasn't something I could find in their catalogs. Wurth does have those on
the other hand.
Jim, if you're just looking for some male .250" (6.35mm) spade connectors
I'm sure I've got a few I could send you in the mail, if you can wait that
long.
