Sorry for the rant... Touchy issue.
Don't even go there with me Mark. Since I left my parent's insurance policy twenty years ago (from college), I have claimed ONE windshield. Then, a couple of years ago, I went to a party with some friends, drank a little too much...and came home a little too late...and got nailed with a DUI. It was later reduced to a negligent driving, but it doesn't matter. The insurance company smelled blood, and it has been a feeding frenzy ever since. Next year, when my crime that hurt nobody (thank God actually) leaves my record, my oldest daughter will get her learner's permit. I will get a rate quote first, then I will get another quote when I tell them she has Type I Insulin dependent diabetes. Somehow, I know that this will trigger mechanisms that will automatically charge more money so that the CEO/CFO assholes who came up with this idea of guilty before any crime has been committed will get their multimillion dollar bonuses.
On the flip side, here in Washington State, we now have a MANDATORY seat belt law. While this was perceived as a "revenue generator" for the State Police by the ignorant, really it was a victory for the insurance companies, who, theoretically, will see claims savings by enforcing people to do the obvious.
Funny though, with this savings, I never saw a reduction in MY rates....
Insurance companies and lawyers. If there was ever an asexual political relationship this is it. AIDS was made for this..
Later,
Craig
