Indeed, there was a reference article back in 2003 in the magazine "racecar 
technology"  I think this is the same people. http://www.ewa1.com/mghrt.html

Also its mentioned in the tyre, suspension & aero chapters in Peter Wright's 
book "Formula 1 Technology"

huh?!?!?  I follow F1 fairly religiously and have never heard or seen this.
Can you provide a reference, please? There are air compressors onboard F1
cars, but I'm pretty sure they only pump up the pneumatics for the
valvetrain.
