Yup, that's it. Finally got a complete description of the problem.
That turn to the right is how you open a locked trunk with the key.
The cylinder appears to be frozen in place. Common failure,
especially in the snow belt. Why didn't you say so in the first place?
:-) Some rust buster or other thin solvent should cut the hardened
white lube Audi put in the mechanism and working the key in the
cylinder should eventually free it up. The link from the remote
solenoid may have disconnected also, preventing remote unlocking.
Since the key may not be used to access the boot most of the time, the
lock cylinder is not moved much, allowing it to seize and not be
noticed until the remote fails.
