Stefan,
That does sound low... somewhere near the thick hash mark left of center is
more typical. Have you checked "area 51" to confirm that the coolant is in
fact reaching normal temperature?
If not, here's how to display the temperature in degrees C on the climate
control display:
1. Press and hold the recirc button, then press the up arrow, then release
both together. This should put the climate control display in data display
mode. The temperature display should now show 01c ("chanel 1").
2. Use the temperature display +/- buttons until you get to 51c ("chanel
51").
3. Press & release the recirc button to select chanel 51. The temperature
display should now show the coolant temperature in degrees C. Normal is 87
+/- 1 degree once warmed up.
4. When all done, press Auto to return to normal mode.
I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that the climate control uses a different
coolant temperature sensor than the gauge. So if you get a good reading of
87, then either the guage or its sender is likly at fault. On the other
hand, if your car doesn't make it up to 87, you may have a stuck open
thermostat.

P.S. There are all kinds of other goodies available in the climate control
system... engine RPM, compressor RPM, vehicle speed in km/h. I know there's
a chart out there somewhere, but don't remember off hand where to find it.
