[s-cars] Reducing 'Negative Boost' Anyone?

Tony and Gang,
Here is what did to work on that negative boost bug.
-1) Removed all the stock intake plumbing that snakes around behind the
radiator.
-2) Removed stock airbox and cut a `3.0" hole in to the airbox with a
Dremel. Basically right around the outside of the existing intake
coupler
-3) Bought a threaded 3" coupler-->4" OD PVC from HomeDepot and a short
section of foil type drier tube.
-4) Screwed in coupler to airbox and attached drier tube to coupler on
airbox with large hose clamps (sort of a tight fit)
-5) Took a 5"-->4" coupler and mounted just right above the oil cooler.
(Personally my car is missing some of the ductwork that goes to the
Oilcooler so could mount just right on top)
-6) Using stock paper element for its filtration properties.

In terms of results have yet to test to see if negative boost is
gone..but this straight IN design theoretically is better then the
snaked OEM orientation.

Does the air take have to be "ram air" as in using a snorkel facing
forward? Or could the airbox just ahve a bigger hole in it, a la cone
filters - that is drawing air in from within engine compartment -
assuming isolation to heated air from rest of engine compartment can be
achieved. Or how about a hose, of large diameter, facing towards back of
car extracting air form somewhere near the axles?

Basically, as it is the engine that is sucking, can the air come from
anywhere, as long as it is not heated by engine/turbo etc.
