Good points Scott,
I was thinking about how to say that. In my opinion a turbo car built and
tuned at altitude will not have a significant losses. (especially if its
running high boost) The lower ambient can be overcome with the
turbocharger and some of the benefits cancel out the negatives. i.e.
bigger turbos work better in thinner air. The Pike's peak cars are good
examples of this. The engineer's went after a target PR entering the
engine and the lower ambient helped the exhaust. The thin cold air just
meant more boost and a bigger turbo, but there was no real inherant
disadvantage with the turbo. The real problem was the altitude change.
Thats why I think (in my opinion) the car will make the unadjusted number
at sea level. I also think, that the Colorado guys can't just go down to
a dyno in KC and make some pulls. Their cars would have to be tuned again
to have any chance of making decent power without all kinds of bizarre
stuff happening (Mostly not being able to maintain their current boost
levels-hence they will loose some power).
James
