[s-cars] catastrophic coolant loss

hey all,
My wifes 95.5 s6 avant suffered a massive coolant loss
today.  
Symptoms:
Curiously the first warning was a check engine light
followed by the low coolant symbol (which went on/off)
-  there wasn't a good place to pullover so she had to
drive aprox 3 miles - the coolent temp and oil temp
never moved from their normal positions.. The car
stalled once at idle (500 ft before she pulled over).
The problem turned out to be...
The plastic T fitting (has a plug in it) behind the
block in the lower heater core hose (in the engine
bay).  It snapped  - picture all the coolant dumping
at once...
Neither of the local dealers stock it so I plan to
bypass it in the am - will also do an oil change.
I guess I concerned as I don't really know how hot the
engine got? - the guages were normal - but if there
was insufficient coolant how accurate is it?
Anything else I should look at? or replace?
